🥫 Ingredients
With just four or five ingredients I'm sure you are likely to already have on hand, this syrup comes together in just mere minutes.
- Brown Sugar
- Butter
- Vanilla
- Water
- Cinnamon (optional)
🥣 Step-by-Step Instructions
Firstly, to get the Brown Sugar Syrup going add the brown sugar and water to a pot over medium-high heat. If wanting to add the cinnamon to the syrup go ahead and add now. Stir everything together until the pot comes to a boil.
Once the sugar has fully dissolved, turn the heat down to medium and allow the mixture to then simmer for 4 minutes. Continue to stir the syrup occasionally.
As soon as the timer is done, add the butter to the pot and stir till it has melted completely.
Remove your pot with the Brown Sugar Syrup from the heat. This is important! You want to be careful not to boil the syrup for too long otherwise it will begin to crystalize. Lastly add the vanilla to the sauce mixture and stir everything together.
Remember your Brown Sugar Syrup will thicken as it continues to cool down. If you prefer a thicker syrup just remove the pot from the heat and allow to cool a few minutes before enjoying.
💭 Top Tips
Heat: As mentioned, be careful when making your Brown Sugar Syrup to not keep it on the heat for too long otherwise it will begin to crystalize.
Doubling: This recipe is great for doubling! For a sweet and simple homemade gift, try pouring it into little jars to share with friends they are sure to love the sweet caramel notes.
🍽 Storing
Any leftover sauce should be refrigerated. If looking for a cute and sensible syrup dispenser check this one out! I love that you can warm the syrup right up there in the dispenser.
Brown Sugar Syrup will keep in the fridge for up to a month. When ready to serve again, pull from fridge and let warm over low heat on the stove or in 15 minute intervals in the microwave stirring between and enjoy!
Keep in mind the butter might separate a little when cooled. But don't worry, just reheat and stir together to continue enjoying.
You can also freeze your homemade brown sugar syrup in an airtight container if you want to keep it longer. If frozen the wyrup will last for up to 6 months. When you are ready to use it just pull it out and thaw or warm over low heat.
