🥣 Step-by-Step Instructions
Firstly, you will want to melt your butter and chocolate chips together in a pot over medium heat.
Then add the milk and powdered sugar to the Hot Fudge Sauce mixture. Give the whole thing a good stir and bring the mixture to a boil on med-high heat. Afterwards reduce the heat to a simmer and allow the sauce to cook for 5 minutes. Just be sure to stir constantly.
Ideally you want to gently and slowly melt your chocolate. Stirring often will help give a more even heating. If overheated the Hot Fudge Sauce will become grainy and bitter. Stirring consistently will prevent the sauce from scorching.
When done go ahead and remove the sauce from the heat and add the vanilla and salt. Give your sauce a final stir. If looking for an extra glossy finish you can also add a dash of coconut oil here.
When ready you will want to serve the sauce when it has slightly cooled but is still warm. If served too hot it may be too runny. For ideal consistency allow the sauce to cool just slightly but while still warm and gooey.
If serving your Hot Fudge Sauce over fresh fruit like strawberries you will want to ensure they are completely dry before adding the chocolate as excess moisture will change the consistency of the chocolate sauce.
👩🏻🍳 Make it Your Own
If wanting to play with the recipe you can always switching it up by swapping the semi-sweet chocolate chips for dark, milk or even white chocolate chips instead. And if you are aspiring for more of a minty chocolate you can try adding a ¼ teaspoon of peppermint extract.
🍽 How to Serve
This Hot Fudge Sauce is perfect for serving and enjoying with just about everything! We love enjoying ours as an ice-cream topping, drizzled over cheesecake or brownie sundae and as a syrup with crepes or pancakes.
And don't hesitate to use it as more of a dipping or fondue sauce either! We love it with things like marshmallows, pound cake or rice crispy treats.
And if you are anything like me, you certainly won't be able to get enough of it paired with fresh fruit like apple slices, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries or pineapple.
It might also be fun to add extra toppings to your creations like, crushed graham crackers, cookies, sprinkles, shredded coconut, or chopped nuts. However you prefer to enjoy it, we know you are going to love it!
🫙 Storing
Store leftover Hot Fudge Sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. Keep in mind that once chilled in the fridge your sauce will become thick.
To enjoy after refrigerating remove sauce from the fridge. Then transfer to a microwave safe bowl and reheat in 10-15 second intervals while stirring in between.
This Hot Fudge Sauce is also a great recipe for making ahead of time and reheating when ready to enjoy. If doing this, you will want to let the fudge cool completely before placing in an airtight container to go in the fridge. Just be care not to let any excess moisture getting in the chocolate as it will ruin it.
