🥘 Ingredients
With just five ingredients and five minutes, Queso Blanco is so simple and easy to prepare.
- Cottage Cheese - Go with reduced-fat or full-fat cottage cheese for the best texture and creaminess.
- White American Cheese - Land O’ Lakes is my go-to brand for white Queso.
- Diced Green Chilies
- Cumin
- Chili Powder
- Pickled Jalapeño (optional) - Canned or jarred jalapeños work great.
🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions
Firstly, in a blender combine the cottage cheese, sliced white American cheese, diced green chilies, cumin and chili powder for your Mexican white cheese dip.
You can find White American Cheese at most deli counters. However, Land O’ Lakes is my go-to brand when it comes to making white Queso. In fact, most restaurant style Quesos we know and love here in the States, use Land O’ Lakes cheese.
Then once everything is added go ahead and blend your Queso Blanco dip mixture till it is fully creamy.
However, if looking for a more flavorful or heated Mexican white cheese dip, add two or three pickled jalapeños or a tablespoon of the pickled juice, to the blender. Then allow the dip to blend for a few seconds to allow it to incorporate.
Then when done, you can go ahead and serve the Queso Blanco as a cold dip. Or instead if preferred it can be warmed slowly in the microwave or on the stove top. But let’s be honest, microwaving is quicker and easier.
So if choosing to microwave, transfer the Mexican white cheese dip into a microwave safe bowl and heat in 30 second bursts, stirring the dip in between.
Then be careful not to heat the dip for too long or too fast. If warmed too quickly the Queso Blanco will lose its creaminess when the cheese seizes up.
Afterwards, when the Mexican white cheese dip is warm serve it with your favorite crispy tortilla chips or other favorite Mexican and tex-mex dishes. Quesadillas, burritos and nachos are all the tastier with Queso Blanco.
⏲️ Equipment
The most used appliance in our kitchen hands down, is our Blendtec Blender. Having a good blender in the kitchen is a must! Used at least once if not sometimes two or three times a day we use our blender for EVERYTHING.
